Baloch Journalist Explains 'Painful Decision' To Apply For Asylum In U.S. - RFE/RL's Radio Mashaal reports.

Malik Siraj Akbar a journalist from Balochistan has described how the disappearances and deaths of colleagues back home prompted him to make the "painful" decision to apply for political asylum in the United States, RFE/RL's Radio Mashaal reports.

He was granted political asylum in the United States earlier this month while on a fellowship at Arizona State University.

Malik told RFE/RL on November 17 that he decided to apply for asylum after he began receiving information from his native province of Baluchistan in western Pakistan that many of his friends and colleagues had disappeared and were later found dead with gunshot wounds.

"The conflict has been going on for eight or nine years now. Many human rights activists, journalists and democracy fighters in Baluchistan have been under pressure all this time. But in the last 15 months, the situation became even worse," Malik said.

"Many Baluchi journalists disappeared and were subsequently found dead. Nobody was held accountable for that, and therefore there is every reason to suggest that the government was involved in the abductions and killings."

Malik added that Baluchistan was currently not a safe place "where a person can pursue the career of journalist." He said the government in Pakistan tried to depict professional journalists in Baluchistan as enemies and criminals, although they simply try to perform their job in an unbiased and fair way.

Malik also said that "unfortunately, not all the stories and ordeals faced by journalists and human rights activists in Baluchistan get out to the outside world," although international human rights watchdogs and the Committee to Protect Journalists have been trying to inform the international community about the situation there.

Malik used to work as the editor of "The Baloch Hal," Baluchistan's first online English-language newspaper, which was often critical of the Pakistani government. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority banned "The Baloch Hal" one year ago

Pakistan state is trying to hide its failure in Balochistan

When the states fail to control any situation then they triumph to solve it with the power or they just ignore it these kind of situation are happening in Balochistan too. Their political leaders are ignoring the matter of Balochistan because they certainly know that this problem has just one ending which is freedom of Balochistan.
Every day we see the bomb blast, target killing, abduction and mutilated bodies incident in
Balochistan but the state says that everything is under control. Now there is peace and prosperity there is just handful of men who are contaminating the condition but we will soon get over it.

In 4 October 2011 Chief minister of Balochistan gave a statement there he said that the separatist aren’t agree to dialogue except freedom of Balochistan and I haven’t got any proof of Indian involvement in Balochistan .We certainly know that Pakistan state is realizing its failure in Balochistan .

Pakistan is building garrison and fort every side of Balochistan but when its come for development then it start blaming the local people .It is truly genocide of Baloch people. ISI is destroying the youth of Baloch people they are mainly abducting under the age of 16 to 28 and throwing their bullet riddled body with the mail in their pocket . it is misunderstood of ISI that the discovery of mutilated body will scared them away from movement of Freedom of Balochistan

Movement of freedom of Balochistan is dramatically spreading all over Balochistan. Now every person are doing their part for freedom of Balochistan. They are ready to sacrifice anything it is unstoppable wave of freedom it will take away the occupier with it .

It is the misapprehension of pakistan that in this modern world he can hide something front of world .
